New NZEB recycling centre, Wels
The “Environment and Safety Center Wels North” (UMZ) was built in 2013. It covers an area of around 9,000m2, with a recycling centre, a second-hand shop and a fire station in one building. The center serves about 20,000 households. In collaboration with the local waste management association and the city of Wels, waste is collected, recycled, where possible repaired and put for sale in the second-hand shop.
The building wast constructed in NZEB standard and equipped with triple-glazed windows, a controlled ventilation system and LED lighting. The building is heated by an air-water heat pump, with floor heating and an in-room temperature control system. A larch wood facade and a green roof also contribute to the environment-friendliness of the project.
