ESCAN SL chairs the Smart Metering Session at the EUW

noviembre 18, 2019

For the fourth consecutive year, Escan SL chairs the smart metering table at the European Utility Week 2019, held from 12 to 14 November in Paris (France). The EUW continues to be the European reference event for energy companies.

Energy companies are in a process of continuous change motivated by the challenges of the coming years in terms of the massive incorporation of renewable energies, the massive development of electric vehicles, self-consumption and technological changes in both electrical grid equipment and communications.

Digitization and added-value services for customers are two of the sentences more repeated by electricity and gas company managers, regarding where to put the spotlight on the present and immediate future. One of the starting points to achieve these objectives are reliable smart grids as well as the smart meters full rollouts.

The session dedicated to smart metering has once again been one of the conferences with the highest audience in the framework of the European Utility Week held in Paris (France) from 12 to 14 November. Three hundred managers and professionals in the sector were able to know the innovations and trends of smart metering systems in advanced countries and objectives for the coming years.

Francisco Puente, Director of Development at Escan Energy Consultants, chaired the table for the fourth consecutive year and presented the current state of smart metering in Europe through the European Smart Metering Map, where you can verify the degree of policy progress and the deployment of meters and consumer services in EU countries.

ENEDIS, France’s leading power distribution company (35 million customers), presented its smart metering deployment program and GRDF, France’s leading gas company (11 million customers) introduced the situation of the deployment of smart metering for natural gas. Companies in the UK (Landis and Gyr), Estonia (Elektrilevi), Italy (Inrete), Canada (Corinex),  France (Altair)  and Denmark (Kamstrup) highlighted the developments in measurement and communications systems.  The Italian regulator (ARERA)  provided information on Italian regulations that promote both second-generation electric smart meters and smart meters for natural gas.
