EuroACE 2019 Business Day: Key Take-Aways on the Future of Decarbonised Buildings
EuroACE organised their annual Business Day last 10th of September, to discuss with members, partners and other stakeholders about past achievements, future trends and upcoming challenges for the buildings sector. These are the key takeaways of the event, which aims to shape the work of EuroACE on the transition towards decarbonised buildings:
- Considering the urgency to decarbonise our economy, we need to step up efforts to accelerate the rate and increase the depth of renovation.
- We need to look beyond individual technologies and integrate them in a holistic approach, focusing on new business models, innovative policy framework, strengthening community and local action, etc.
- The future lies beyond individual buildings in a system approach. We should intend to create a new, flexible system that enables to optimise energy consumption in a building and at a system level.
- We should strive to reduce the environmental impacts of decarbonised buildings, and should, therefore, consider the whole life of carbon impact of the built environment.
- The education of all professionals in the buildings supply chain should comprehend a firm understanding of environmental impact, and this should be supplemented by good quality controls on the ground.
- Buildings should be people-centred. Therefore, people should obtain more knowledge support when investing in a home. A better monitoring and integration of non-energy benefits of energy efficient and decarbonised buildings (impact on health, wellness and productivity, etc.) is also necessary.
