About the Scalable Cities Action Grant
The Scalable Cities Action Grant provides financial support for cities and ad-hoc partnerships aiming to replicate successful measures from Scalable Cities’ projects, facilitating the transition to climate neutrality. Collaborating with the European Commission and CINEA, Scalable Cities aims to deploy wide-scale, innovative solutions in energy, transport, and ICT, spurring significant economic investment.
Organised into four calls for proposals, the grant targets cities and related partners, including local energy agencies, construction agencies, civil society organizations, and research institutes from completed Horizon 2020 SCC01 Lighthouse projects or external cities interested in replicating specific actions from Scalable Cities projects.
Success stories from past grant winners
Cities that secured funding in previous rounds provide inspiration and tangible examples of what can be achieved. Brussels, Belgium, used their grant to develop a Digital Twin, while Las Rozas and La Rinconada in Spain focused on supporting the energy transition through the Data for Decarbonisation project.
Projects like Liepaja Smart City Roadmap in Latvia enabled the city to establish a transformative mentorship, share knowledge and collaborate with the city of Valencia. Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain engaged in a multi-actor approach, helping them become part of the Net Zero and Climate Change Adaptation Missions through the Klima Gasteiz project. And Padova, Italy, embarked on the +PADOVAxChange initiative, focusing on Urban Digital Twins for Net Zero Roadmaps.
The Scalable Cities Action Grant has proven to be a catalyst for positive change, with the first and second rounds funding projects ranging from innovative governance strategies to systemic governance changes and investment cases for replicating urban sharing platforms.
