A new place for urban change-makers to connect, grow and learn together

mayo 22, 2024

In our daily work with local governments and communities, we see this over and over again: whether they are civil servants, elected representatives or active citizens, many of them feel overwhelmed by the challenges ahead. They dream of having a greater impact either thanks to more resources and/or better skills. For over 30 years, Energy Cities has been supporting local governments at different stages of their pathway towards sustainability. We help them growing and learning together. After our campaign shout out last year to “Give cities the staffing means for their climate ambitions!”, we now move to the next level with an unseen open-access learning environment tailored to our members’ and partners’ needs: the “Local Transitions Learning Centre: Connecting communities. Future-proofing cities”.

The Local Transition Learning Centre: a new learning environment for sustainable and inclusive cities

The knowledge and learning experts of Energy Cities have been working tirelessly for providing civil servants, local leaders, climate and energy agencies and free-lance consultants with the brand new “Local Transitions Learning Centre”: an open-access virtual learning environment. By joining our learning opportunities people involved in sustainability transitions can learn together, develop their skills and competencies to achieve both professional or personal goals. More than that, they can bring in their real-world experience to help designing expert-led learning opportunities. Besides the individual benefit, organisations can develop their collective capacity to make better informed decisions and to implement projects with higher impact on the ground.

Working with cities daily, at Energy Cities we have a clear understanding of their staff’s learning needs and constraints, as well as capacity potential and gaps. As many of you know, throughout our 30-year journey, we have grown our expertise and developed innovative approaches in capacity-building, peer-to-peer exchanges, study visits, in person training, on-line webinars and workshops and, more recently, on e-learning opportunities.

Knowledge around what matters most

That is why we have decided to gather all our e-learning opportunities addressing major strategic issues of energy and climate transitions such as:

  1. Governance for future-proofed cities,
  2. Fossil-free cities,
  3. Energy communities,
  4. Sustainable food systems,
  5. Fair social and economic models.

Our courses and learning activities are as diverse as you are! To best meet local authorities’ learning needs and constraints, we have designed a variety e-learning formats, adopting different learning models requiring different levels of time investment.

  • Micro-learnings: up to 20 minutes
  • Specialised courses: up to 3 hours
  • Learning programmes: up to 10 hours
  • Learning communities of practice: low intensity, but long-term engagement

Learn and co-develop with us

As cities are living places and the knowledge about them is never complete, so is our Local Transitions Learning Centre: we will design and release new learning opportunities; test and deploy innovative methodologies and new formats alongside the more traditional formats. And, obviously, on-line and in-person learning opportunities are interwinningly linked and they are mutually reinforcing each other.
