EUCityCalc: New impact assesment tool already in use!
In their efforts to contribute to a more sustainable future, cities often face the hurdle of having insufficient information to appropriately assess their respective pathways towards climate neutrality.
EUCityCalc, a free open source online platform, allows cities to overcome this problem by providing the information and analysis tools necessary to assess their impact in terms of emission reductions and the cost associated with this.
Funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, this project attempts to facilitate cities’ contribution to reaching and maintaining the goals of the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal. Allowing cities to develop scientifically-reviewed, cost-effective and concrete policy scenarios and transition pathways, as EUCityCalc is a core element in making these goals a reality.
With data provided by cities, in combination with EUCityCalc’s rich database, the web tool will provide cities with an impact assessment of their respective choices, facilitating decision-making for local governments.
The programme is now available to 10 pilot cities and as of January 24th other cities can get involved in the EUCityCalc Learning Programme, which will train them in the processes necessary to begin using this tool.
