EUCityCalc: the new webtool to empower local authorities

febrero 09, 2024

In their efforts to contribute to a more sustainable future, cities often face the hurdle of having insufficient information to appropriately assess their respective pathways towards climate neutrality.

EUCityCalc, a free open source online platform, allows cities to visualize and simulate low-carbon scenarios to find the model that better suits their needs while saving time and money. It provides an easy-to-use interface enabling administrations and other stakeholders to assess the implications and trade-offs related to the implementation of mitigation measures in energy-relevant sectors (transport, industry, agriculture, buildings, etc.).

EUCityCalc’s mission is to support cities in developing and implementing scientifically robust, detailed, and integrated transition pathways towards climate neutrality. An energy modelling tool adapted to the cities’ needs to help them in their decision-making process and implementation of climate strategy to reach and maintain the goals of the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal.

Beginning on February 26th, 2024, cities will have the opportunity to participate in the EUCityCalc learning programme. Through this initiative, they will gain insights into data collection and tool utilization, learn how to organise and conduct co-creation workshops engaging various stakeholders, and comprehend the relevant role local authorities can play in influencing national policy processes.
