European Week of Regions and Cities 2019
Since 2003, the European Week of Regions and Cities has been giving cities and regions the opportunity to display their actions, confirming the importance of the local and regional level for the governance of the European Union. This year, the event will take place from 7th to 10th October in Brussels. Local events will run from September to November all over Europe.
Like every year, Energy Cities is organising some
interesting debates and workshops, to make sure best practices and projects of
local governments in transition get all the attention they deserve. We hope to
see you there!
Bridging Adaptation and Mitigation: Hands-On Climate Action across European Municipalities
8 October 2019, 11:30 – 13:00
This interactive session will present how multi-level collaboration can unlock the potential for local climate action to shape a greener Europe. Two roundtables will discuss lessons learnt from two approaches to local projects: “municipal climate partnerships” and “smart cities”. Participants will share experiences and challenges of supporting communities through these approaches.
Turning your Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan into a strategic investment plan
9 October 2019, 9:00 – 16:00
Organised in the framework of the Horizon 2020
PROSPECT project and the Covenant of Mayors initiative, this event will provide
you with useful tips & tricks to successfully transform a city’s sustainable
energy and climate action plans into actions.
The day after, the participants will visit two
public buildings that went through energy retrofitting: one school and a
foundry turned into a cultural centre!
District heating and cooling: cities going circular for a carbon neutral Europe
10 October 2019, 11:30 – 13:00
There are many paths towards reaching energy,
climate and circularity goals, but one solution in particular stands out:
district heating networks can become modern vectors of territorial energy
integration and sector coupling. This
workshop will focus on the role of high efficient district heating networks, facilitating
the exchange of emerging expertise and knowledge on their deployment and
modernisation.
The challenge of local energy governance: the model of the MED Efficient Buildings Community to provide concrete solutions
10 October 2019, 9:00 – 16:00
The MED Efficient Buildings Community
developed, tested and disseminates practical tools and methodologies at the
service of local and regional public authorities. During this Mediterranean
Energy Debate, public officials will have the chance to learn how to better
design, implement and finance efficiency measures in public buildings and
neighbourhoods around the Mediterranean.
