Energy Cities is involved in the projects HeatNet North West Europe (HeatNet NWE) and Hotmaps, aiming at making heating and cooling greener and more efficient/affordable for cities. The Hotmaps project developed and tested an online tool to support local authorities in their energy planning, while HeatNet NWE is focusing on the development of local 4th generation district heating and cooling (4DHC) networks.

29th October 2019, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM (CEST)
The company Mijnwater B.V. and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will discuss the main outputs of the project HeatNet NWE: reducing CO2 emissions in North West Europe by introducing and demonstrating 4th generation District Heating and Cooling. The webinar will be in Dutch.

this webinar, supported by the European Covenant of Mayors, you will learn how
this heating and cooling planning toolbox can support cities in the development
and implementation of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans.

Events & Trainings
4 and 5 December 2019, Tourcoing (France)
HeatNet partners will be present at the event “North-West Europe (NEW) making an impact!” organised by the NWE Interreg programme. Come visit us during the project exhibition on 4th December. The same day, you will be able to enjoy a site visit to the pilot lab of HeatNet NWE in the city of Kotrijk. And on 5th December, join us for the workshop “the pathway to high-performance buildings”.

In the following months, the Hotmaps project will host a series of
trainings taking place in different locations all over Europe. We would like to
train people working for a local, regional and or national authority that is
responsible for heating and cooling topics, but planners or consultants in this
field are also welcome.

HeatNet NEW
Guides
The project developed two 10-pages guides explaining the environmental,
economic and social benefits of the 4th generation of District Heating and
Cooling (4DHC) and
providing guidance to develop this innovative technology. One guide is directed
to public sector organisations and is available in English and Dutch. The second
guide is intended for energy companies, not only those operating District
Heating and Cooling networks, but also for traditional energy companies which
may be interested in new business models for energy supply. It is available in
English and French.

If you want
to go deeper in the subject of 4DHC, the HeatNet NEW project developed technical
guides for local authorities and developers building clean DHC networks:
- A guide to Heat Mapping, as heat maps are a pre-requisite to match heat demand and local and renewable heat sources.
- A Procurement guide, providing guidance on how to procure services and goods needed to develop 4th generation DHC. This guide also showcases the procurement processes used by the pilot cities of the project.
- Guide to Integrating 4DHC with Energy Efficiency Retrofitting, giving solutions to connect 4DHC to energy-efficient buildings.
- Guide to home and building energy management, for 4DHC developers and operators aiming for energy-efficient networks and building owners and users who want to make the most of it.
