Is your city eligible for the Just Transition Fund?

marzo 02, 2020

The €7.5bn Just Transition Fund will be
shared across the 27 countries of the EU. What began life as a proposal to help
coal-dependent regions transition to a low-carbon future will now also help
regions dependent on carbon-intensive industries like steel or chemicals.

Cádiz is the only Energy Cities member named as a target region in the EU Commission’s proposal but many other members could be eligible according to the country breakdowns which are listed here: https://ec.europa.eu/info/sites/info/files/annex_d_crs_2020_en.pdf. In total about 100 regions in Europe are eligible for funding. Check the table below to see if your city is in one of the listed regions.

Energy Cities members who could benefit
from the Just Transition Fund are encouraged to get in touch with their
national government right away to begin developing proposals for funding.

The goal of the €7.5bn fund is to mobilise
€100bn in capital through grants, private investment and support from the
European Investment Bank.

The amount of money available varies greatly between different countries. Poland stands to gain the most, €2bn, if they sign onto the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Germany has the most eligible regions with 18 in total.
