Navigating the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2019
Do you plan to be in Brussels
for the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW)? During this yearly
event, taking place from the 17th to the 21st June, the European
Commission welcome delegates from all over Europe to discuss the most
pressing energy issues.

- Life after the CEP: Unleashing the power of renewable energy communities – 14:00 to 15:30
How do we unleash the power of community renewable energy? Energy
communities are new to many people, and citizens are not aware of their
opportunities or the new EU rules. The purpose of this event is to help
citizens, NGOs, business, grid operators, regulators, and national
decision makers better understand implications of the new EU legislative
provisions.

- NECPs: debating policy solutions to deliver a carbon-free EU – 14:00 to 15:30
This session will highlight the opportunities available to engage in
the national elaboration of the National Energy and Climate Plans
(NECPs) and stress the benefits of an inclusive process where civil
society and local authorities co-create commitment and allow for
implementation.

- Ending energy poverty: how EU citizens are taking action – 16:00 to 17:30
This session will showcase citizens action to fight energy poverty,
such as renewable energy projects, local energy communities, solidarity
programs, campaigns for insulation of homes and to recognize access to
clean affordable energy as a human right.

- Covenant of Mayors’ Session: Multilevel governance and cross-sectoral cooperation to combat energy poverty – 9:00 to 10:30
The main objective of the session is to discuss the implementation of
energy poverty provisions within the Clean Energy Package at the level
of communities, cities, regions and member states. The emphasis will be
on cross-sectoral integration of energy poverty policies within energy
efficiency, housing, urban development, health and consumer protection
policies.

- Covenant of Mayors’ Session: Local authorities as a driver for achieving 2030 climate goals – 11:00 to 12:30
In this session, successful initiatives strengthening local action will
be presented. Local and regional authorities will be invited to share
their experience and best practices on long-term energy planning and
multi-level governance.
More information - Role of local authorities and national agencies for efficient buildings in the Mediterranean – 17:45 to 19:15
This session aims to bring together cities and national agencies from
Northern and Southern Mediterranean countries to build a shared vision
on challenges and solutions for implementing an inclusive and
sustainable energy transition adapted to the Mediterranean area.

This event will build on the results from the GSR2019 and look at the
position of the EU in accelerating the renewable energy future. It will
specifically discuss where integrated approaches to support the uptake
are, or are not, happening and strategies that could be developed to
encourage greater development.

- The Green Revolution Starts at Home – 11:00 to 12:30
This policy session will give a thorough overview of the heating and
cooling sector in Europe with its opportunities, tools and technologies
available for local, regional and national authorities.

This session aims at showcasing opportunities and challenges for
distribution systems operators to achieve the energy transition and what
innovative services are being delivered by energy communities and local
business developers in terms of flexibility services, e-mobility and
aggregation.

When in Brussels…
EUSEW won’t be the only important item on the Brussels’ energy agenda that week. Below two great events not to be missed:
Energy Cities’ capacity building workshop “Providing
energy retrofit packages to private homeowners – business models and
project implementation” – 19 June from 9 to 17:30
Partners in the ACE-Retrofitting and INNOVATE
projects will share their expertise, case studies and practical tools
for setting up one-stop-shops providing integrated renovation services
to homeowners.
The Right to Energy Forum
– 19 to 20 June: an opportunity to meet activists, trade unionists,
campaigners, and people from all over Europe who work on energy poverty,
energy democracy, community energy, and a socially-fair energy
transition.
