Cities and local actors decarbonise heating and cooling: a journey from vision to implementation!
11 October, from 9 to 4 pm
The final conference of the EU funded project Decarb City Pipes will provide a platform to present and debate technical, financial, planning and organisational solutions by and for cities, as well as legislative propositions for national and EU policy makers, to decarbonise the heating and cooling sector.
Covenant of Mayors: together for ambitious climate and energy action
11 October, from 11:30 to 12:30 pm
In this workshop, we will showcase how the bottom-up governance of the Covenant of Mayors is mobilising thousands of cities committing to ambitious targets and taking local climate and energy action. We will build on outstanding and replicable supporting models of regions from different countries, on how they are mobilising cities, providing capacity-building support and access to funding opportunities to drive and accelerate the energy and climate transition in Europe.
Energy Communities – Solving global challenges locally
12 October, from 9:30 to 11
This workshop, organised by the Greens in the EU Committee of Regions, will bring together different local and European perspectives on energy communities. We will discuss the role of local authorities and governments, raising awareness on their benefits while also highlighting the remaining challenges and how we can overcome them together.
Achieving Climate Neutral Cities through the Regeneration of Historic Urban Areas
12 October, from 9:30 to 11
The EU Mission Cities are developing comprehensive plans towards climate neutrality (Climate City Contracts – CCC). How can these plans facilitate the regeneration of historic urban areas? During this workshop, the EU funded innovation projects CENTRINNO, T-Factor and HUB-IN will unveil the findings of their latest report on the topic. In a thematic world-café and peer-learning exercise we will discuss with policymakers, city makers, researchers and selected Mission Cities the challenges for creative spaces, temporary uses and heritage revitalisation.
Access to finance for the local energy transition: moving away from subsidies
12 October, from 11:30 to 1 pm
The energy crisis brought to light the vital role that public authorities play in steering the course of the energy transition. Their quick actions led to a decrease in energy demand, a surge in the use of renewable energy, and aid provided to vulnerable households and local businesses. Nonetheless, the journey ahead calls for more than just dependence on public funds. During this workshop, organised by the EU funded project PROSPECT+ in partnership with the Covenant of Mayors Office, Smart Cities Marketplace, and Managenergy, you will:
- Uncover innovative strategies for financing local energy transition.
- Discover ways to reduce dependence on subsidies.
- Learn how cities & regions can secure sustainable funding for climate action.
Financing the local energy transition – from plan to reality
12 October, from 9:30 to 10:30
The European City Facility (EUCF) has supported over 200 local and regional governments in developing investment concepts for energy projects. The event will present success stories – and challenges – in bridging the gap between local and regional governments’ ambition and financing. We will also provide guidance on how cities and regions can apply for the next EUCF call (expected in January) offering 60 000 EUR in support of their planning.
